Salem Supports Seafarer's Shoebox Christmas

It may be difficult to imagine that Christmas is only 90 days away, but the Salem Stitchcrafters have already begun their preparations for this year's "Christmas at Sea" project.

The goal is to prepare 30 Christmas gift boxes for Pastor Gerry Rickel to deliver to a ship docked in the Port of Baltimore in early December. These gift boxes will be distributed to crew members at sea on Christmas Eve. Although the Stitchcrafters are making hats and scarves, the group will need to purchase additional items for each of the 30 boxes. Monetary contributions or donations are greatly appreciated. Please place your cash or check –payable to Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church– in a pew envelope marked “Seafarers,” and place this in the offering plate by November 2nd.

The Stitchcrafters also require 30 each unused Christmas cards, and good-sized shoe boxes, as well as smaller gifts (pens, paper pads, playing cards, etc.), which it hopes to collect through donations. These items can be deposited in the box designated "Christmas at Sea" in the church narthex.

Please direct any questions about this project to this year’s coordinators, Carol Rau  or Barbara Beem (call church office at 410 747 0720 for contact info).
