Salem Quilt Show Art Exhibition Starts Nov. 2

Please mark your calendars for  The Quilt Show art exhibition   sponsored by the Arts Committee.  The show opens in the Agape Art Gallery on Sunday, November 2nd and runs through the holiday season.

Quilt submissions will be accepted tonight (October 29th) between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., and Saturday, November 1st, between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.

All types of quilts will be accepted (handmade, machine made or artist quilts; any size, style or age, as long as they are not too worn or fragile to hang).  Keeping in mind that many quilts are larger than     3' x 6', we ask that larger quilts be folded to fit to our space restrictions in order to accommodate as many quilt entries as possible.

It is necessary that the following parameters be followed for hanging:

· Quilts that are larger can be folded over a wooden dowel that should be at least as long as the folded width of the piece.  The dowel should be a minimum of 1/2" diameter in order to support the quilt without sagging.

· If the quilt is smaller, a fabric "sleeve" can be attached to within 3" of the top edge of the quilt, through which the dowel can be inserted.

· It is important that the dowel project at least an inch beyond the side edges so that the hanging mechanism can be attached to each side of the dowel.

If you have any questions about how to prepare your quilt for hanging. Please contact Char Brooks (phone number available through Salem Office). We look forward to a quilt show full of surprises and variety.

Salem Marketplace: November 1, 10am-2pm

The Christian Fellowship Committee and Marketplace Committee are almost ready for the 2014 Marketplace!

Join us at Salem on Saturday, November 1 from 10am-2pm. There is still time to donate used books, costume jewelry, and white elephant items: just drop them by the church during office hours (Monday-Friday, 9am-3pm)

Also present will be local vendors and crafters, a bake sale, and a silent auction sure to give you some great ideas for early Christmas shopping. Lunch will be available for a very affordable price.

The three charities chosen as  recipients of this year’s Marketplace funds are:

· Doctors without Borders
· Wounded Warriors
· Exercise Peace Camp (sponsored by All Saint’s  Lutheran Church in Baltimore City)

The Salem Stitchcrafters are again creating an afghan to benefit the West Side Emergency Shelter.

Continued thanks for your generous spirit.
